Sisterhood President's Message
Sisterhood President's Message
Dear Friends,
There is no better way to connect with great women than by joining Sisterhood Temple Emanuel. This is NOT the Sisterhood of your mother and grandmother, so dispose of all those pre-conceived notions! Think wine tastings, movie nights, yoga for the Soul Minyan, field trips to museums, lecture series, women who lead Shabbat services, and cooking classes. We are about women of ALL generations coming together to learn, to pray, and to have fun together. Sisterhood will foster friendships that will last a life time, whatever your age.
The true beauty of Sisterhood is that it is multi-generational. Come to our events and you will see women of all ages with common interests learning, praying and enjoying. On a regular basis, we have book clubs, educational speakers on current topics of interest, torah study groups, Sisterhood-led Shabbat and social events with brotherhood. This past year we had a weekend long retreat of bonding where we danced, walked on the beach, dined, exercised, and prayed together.
And that is just the beginning: Don't miss Donor brunch on November 6, our largest event of the year, where you will join with over 300 other Sisterhood members to hear journalist and historian Melissa Fay Greene and shop for unique items at our boutiques set up throughout the community court and vestry. Melissa Fay Greene is an award-winning author and two-time National Book Award finalist, and is also the proud mother of nine: four by birth, one adopted at age four from Bulgaria, and four adopted at older ages from Ethiopia. Greene's new book, NO BIKING IN THE HOUSE WITHOUT A HELMET, an Oprah Must-read, is a loving portrait of her unique 21st century family, and it is winning fantastic accolades from reviewers and readers around the country (and the book is available for purchase at our own Lang Judaica Shop).
Join Bubbe's Secrets, where our own Bubbes teach the younger generation their cooking secrets in small groups at their homes. Attend our Torah Fund brunch in April. Come to our holiday card-making event in September and in October, attend our joint event with the brotherhood.
The possibilities are endless and we welcome your ideas. Please see the link on this page to Upcoming Sisterhood Programs for specific dates and times of programs as they become available.
So, why Sisterhood? There is a place for you here and you will love it. You will love the education, the inspiration, the spirit, and the fun, but mostly, the friendships.
As co-Presidents of Sisterhood, Michelle Garfinkel and Ronna Benjamin, look forward to welcoming you as part of our community. To make Sisterhood a part of your life or to find out more, please email them or Membership co-chairs Charlotte Bailey and Lisa Golden.
