Yom HaShoah Commemoration

As many survivors, the eye witnesses to the abyss of the Holocaust, are passing on, we are entering a critical new era. The 2010 Yom HaShoah program recognized this sober trend and the critical importance of passing the survivors' legacy to the next and future generations. At that program, we watched a collection of intimate stories told by survivors within our community, preserved for our children in director Naomi Raiselle's film, "Tikkun."
This year's program will feature a panel discussion with participants in "Tikkun" led by our beloved Rabbi Gardenswartz. Cheryl Stober, Carl Katz, Nate Birnbaum, Eric Ungar and Danny Mandeau will discuss how the Shoah has affected their lives and how they hope to pass the legacy on to future generations. The program will leave you with much to ponder about Holocaust remembrance.
On April 12, 1951, the Knesset passed a resolution proclaiming the 27th of Nisan "the Holocaust
and Ghetto Uprising Remembrance Day - a day of perpetual remembrance for the House of Israel." The date was specifically chosen to fall between the outbreak of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising and the observance of Israel Independence Day.
