“Artful Afternoons” is a new interactive art appreciation and art making program for seniors, with a new theme each time! Held on Thursday afternoons, this program offers storytelling, film, visual arts, music and more to stimulate the mind and soul. No charge; all are welcome! Refreshments served.

“Realism vs Abstraction in Art” with Bonnie Lerner

Art educator Bonnie Lerner will lead an interactive presentation of both realistic and abstract art. Together, we’ll ask: What is Abstraction? What are Abstract Artists trying to explore in their work? Afterwards, we will create our own works of abstract art in the style of Henri Matisse’s “Cut Outs.”

Exploration in Art: Sculptures with Carolyn Melbye

Carolyn Melbye will educate us through a power point presentation about famous sculptures you may have seen in museums. Following the presentation, we will sculpt with clay!

Women Artists with Bonnie Lerner Art educator

Bonnie Lerner will lead an interactive presentation exploring the lives of three well-known female artists, Freda Kahlo, Lee Krasner, and Georgia O’Keefe. What was it like to be a female artist in their time? Afterwards, we will each create a flower drawing, in the style of Georgia O’Keefe.

Russian Stacking Dolls with Laura Garrity-Arquitt

Laura Garrity-Arquitt, a registrar with the Museum of Russian Icons in Clinton, MA, will bring a sampling of 15 Mapryoshka dolls from the donated collection of Pamela Kruskall of Newton of over 385 nesting dolls from Russia (USSR), Poland, Japan, Ukraine and Belarus.
