A slow of reading of Marcel Proust’s novel Remembrance of Things Past. This course examins the second volume In a Budding Grove. Knowledge of the first volume is helpful but not necessary. Participants read 35 pages for each session and meet once a week for one hour via Zoom. Proust’s novel speaks to our current political situation; it examines how snobbery, greed and sexual desire drive social interaction. Antisemitism and the prostitution of women are woven into the fabric of Proust’s upper class French society, which is as polished as it is crude.
Join a lively group; sharpen your mind, learn to read a morally complex text. Discover the most radical writer of the 20th century.
