Where is God today? The Third Commandment
Services Start: 7:30 pm, Learning Starts: 8:00 pm
If the third commandment had a PR department, a modern focus group might have said, “Don’t dwell on God. Go for something more concrete.” Indeed, many modern commentators highlight the, “do not take in vain,” part of the verse rather than the, “Lord your God,” part of the verse to derive a simple practical charge – “watch your language.”
But what if instead of glossing over God, we dug into the third commandment to ask– what do we mean by God’s name?
Join us as Rabbi Meir Soloveichik makes a powerful case for the sustaining power of the third commandment, in Jewish history and now. His 20-minute lecture will be followed by a clergy conversation on the deep power of the third commandment for us today.
At 9:00 pm, join the Rabbinical Assembly’s One Movement, 24 Hours, and Lots of Torah! with learners from around the country for a nationwide Tikkun Leil Shavuot.
