Rochelle Walensky, MD, MPH, is chief of the Division of Infectious Diseases and a practicing Infectious Diseases physician at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Dr. Walensky’s primary research interests focus on model-based analyses of the cost-effectiveness of HIV testing, care, and prevention strategies to inform HIV/AIDS policy internationally and domestically. In addition to leading her Infectious Diseases faculty on the frontline of the COVID-19 pandemic, she has published COVID-19 related editorials and original science, related to the safe re-opening of college campuses, the importance of data on and access to remdesivir, the critical ID physician shortage, the interpretation of COVID serosurveillance data, and the value of alternative masking strategies, among others.

Dr. Walensky’s hospital leadership led to among the first “universal masking” policies in the country, and a decrease in hospital transmission at Mass General Brigham. Dr. Walensky has been instrumental in advising local, national, and international leaders on testing methodologies and implementation strategies as it translates to developing public health policies and guidelines.

Dr. Walensky is married to Loren Walensky, MD, PhD – also a physician scientist; they have 3 sons ages 16, 18 and 20.
