SUMMARY:Teen Tikkun
DESCRIPTION:Grades 8-12\nTikkun Leil Shavuot with a teen twist! Join other teens and our rabbinic intern candidate\, Ashley Pratt\, for learning\, dinner and discussion in the Solomon Youth Lounge. Ashley’s teaching\, titled No Chacham Left Behind\, covers “What does it mean to be smart? Is it better to have a great memory\, or be really good at analysis? Should you focus on learning everything that has already been written\, or on innovating and creating your own knowledge and understanding? In honor of the holiday of Shavuot\, which we celebrate through learning\, join a conversation about the value of different learning styles we see in the rabbis.” \nThen\, all teens are invited to attend the keynote address with the congregation and more fun learning with topics such as “Kvetching towards Sinai: Seinfeld\, Curb and the first 5 commandments\,” “Songs from Sinai to sing and share” and cheesecake making. \nNo cost for dinner but please do RSVP here\nAbout Ashley Pratt\nAshley is a rising Shanah Gimmel (Year 3) rabbinical student at Hebrew College. Born in Louisiana\, Ashley has also lived in Arkansas\, London\, D.C.\, and most recently Seattle. Ashley received her bachelor’s degree in theatre at Arkansas State University and her Masters in International Relations at King’s College London. She has previously worked as a stage manager\, in open source research\, and at a tech startup. Before starting rabbinical school\, she spent three years as program director for Jconnect\, Hillel UW’s program for Seattle’s 20s-30s Jewish community. Her introduction to Talmud study was with SVARA\, and in July 2023 she spent three weeks at Pardes in Jerusalem thriving in the daily beit midrash. Ashley is passionate about bringing people into Jewish life who have\, for whatever reason\, felt marginalized. At one point fluent in Spanish\, Ashley can usually resurrect those skills if necessary. Her hobbies include hiking and camping\, paddle boarding\, live music\, reading\, and traveling. She loves Talmud study\, babka\, coffee\, and stationery. \n
