SUMMARY:Founding Editor of The Times of Israel\, David Horovitz\, in Dialogue with Seth Klarman
DESCRIPTION:From his perch as founding editor of the online newspaper “Times of Israel\,” David Horovitz reports daily and editorializes regularly on events in Israel. His conversation with CEO & Portfolio Manager of The Baupost Group\, Seth Klarman\, will be wide-ranging; from the carnage of October 7\, 2023\, to the release of the last living hostage last month\, to the ramifications of this period for Israeli society now and far into the future. With David’s keen reporter’s eye\, crisp and clear communication style\, deep knowledge of history\, and unique lens on Israeli society and political life\, this conversation will bring all of us closer to the trauma Israelis have been experiencing for the past two years – the horrific massacre\, multifront wars\, terror and rocket attacks\, everyday life disrupted\, politics and protests on hold. SUMMARY:Micah Goodman: Global Chaos - The Forces Undermining the World Order
DESCRIPTION:Our Temple Emanuel Hartman Learning Initiative continues with Dr. Micah Goodman\, who will join us in person from Israel. \nWe all get\, every day\, that we are living in no ordinary time. That we are living in historically tumultuous times. In America. The world. The financial markets. Universities. Alliances that are upturned. America’s role in the international order since World War II upturned. In Israel. Its government under a cloud of investigations and mistrust. The moral and reputational challenges to its war with Hamas that will not end\, with Hamas damaged but not gone\, and with our hostages still held captive. \nBut why? \nWhy is there this world-wide international tumult? What are its origins? What\, if anything\, can we do to ameliorate it? Most of us work on creating a counterworld of decency and dignity in our own dalet amot\, the four cubits of our local existence. But can any of us make the problem of this global chaos better at its roots? Or not? \nOn Monday night\, May 5\, from 8:00 to 9:00 pm\, in the Rabbi Samuel Chiel Sanctuary\, we will wrap up our year of in person Hartman learning at Temple Emanuel with a visit from our friend and teacher\, thought leader and public intellectual Micah Goodman who will be here from Israel to speak about the chaos now afflicting the lands we love and the world in which we live. \nWatch a Recording Here→ \nUpcoming Hartman Learning Programs:\nJune 25 – July 2\, 2025 – TE-Hartman 2025 Trip to Israel. Let us know here you’d like to learn more! \nJune 24 – July 1\, 2026 – TE-Hartman 2026 Trip to Israel. SUMMARY:Small Discussion Groups To Talk About Israel
DESCRIPTION:The war in Israel continues\, with hopes of hostage release and de-escalation raised and dashed over and over again. The rise in antisemitism here and across the globe continues\, causing alarm for Jews everywhere. As a TE community\, we continue to support Israel and the fight against antisemitism. Last month\, fifty of us showed up in Israel\, helped\, witnessed\, and grieved together. This JNF Mission forever changed everyone on the trip. Together we march\, protest\, raise money through donations\, challah baking and other TE events\, and express our views to politicians and those who may be able to influence policy. The activism and support efforts at Temple Emanuel will\, and must\, continue. \nSoon after the war started\, we began small discussion groups that allow our members to talk to one another about this heart wrenching time. Over 50 people have joined and new people come each session. One participant said he felt like it was the only safe space to discuss Israel. \nJoin us again Sunday\, March 31\, 10:00am-11:00am in Reisman Hall as we come together to process together our feelings about the heart wrenching events unfolding. If you have a group from a prior session\, wonderful. Your group can continue. New groups form\, people join in with others. Everyone and every viewpoint are welcome. \nWe hope you will join us to share your feelings and thoughts during one of the most challenging times for the Jewish people and the Jewish State. \nProvide relief to victims of terror and war in Israel.  Donate now →
