DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special Shabbat Service with guest speaker Robert Leikind\, Regional Director of AJC New England. \nSermon Topic: Clarity\, Courage\, and Commitment: Confronting Antisemitism Now \nThe surge of antisemitism has left many of us unsettled\, confused\, and struggling to understand what type of Jewish future is possible in the Diaspora. In fact\, we can have a large hand in shaping our future\, but to do this we first need to better understand the challenge before us. \nAbout Robert Leikind\nRob Leikind has been director of AJC New England since 2008. A child of parents who survived Hitler’s Europe\, he grew up with a deeply rooted regard for the opportunity that American democracy affords Jews and other vulnerable minorities. Throughout his career\, Rob has been a passionate defender of civil rights\, an ardent advocate in the fight against antisemitism and other forms of bigotry\, and a vocal proponent of a just and secure future for Israel and its neighbors. \nRob began his career working with Holocaust survivors in Brooklyn\, New York. A lawyer by training\, he served as an Assistant District Attorney before going on to be Director of the ADL’s Connecticut and Boston offices and Senior Vice President of Hebrew College. \nRob has been a contributor to various media on topics ranging from Israel and anti-Semitism to intergroup relations and civil rights. He received his bachelor’s degree from Vassar College\, an M.S. from Columbia University and his J.D. from the Boston College Law School.

Held annually on Super Bowl Sunday\, World Wide Wrap Day reminds us that Tefilin connect our heads\, hands and hearts. \nOn Sunday February 8th\, celebrate this iconic day by either joining us in the Gann Chapel for Minyan at 8:00 am\, or with our Religious School at 9:30 am. DESCRIPTION:For grades 5-8 and open to all!\nGet ready to wrap and roll! \nCelebrate World Wide Wrap Day by participating in the mitzvah of wrapping tefillin with our community. \n5th-7th graders and their parents are invited to a special learner’s morning minyan service followed by a bagel and lox brunch and learn. Students in 8th-12th grade as well as “curious-about-tefillin” adults are encouraged to join us as well. \n9:30-10:00 The wrapping begins\n10:00-11:00 Learner’s Service in Gann Chapel\n11:00-11:45 Brunch and Learn \n5th and 6th graders will use the tefillin they hand-make at Religious School prior to the program. \n7th graders should bring their tefillin they received their bar/bat mitzvah year as well as the tallit they made in 6th grade. \n8th graders and up should bring any tefillin or tallit they may have. Some pairs will be available to borrow. \nFor food ordering purposes\, RSVP is appreciated if you or your child are not part of the grades 5-7 Religious School community. DESCRIPTION:Please join us as Brotherhood leads a special Shabbat morning service that honors many of the men who help keep our community vibrant and strong.  Be there as we celebrate passing our traditions from generation to generation (l’dor v’dor) with a diverse lineup of participants. \nIt is also Shabbat Zachor\, which brings attention to the antisemitism we have faced in the past and today.  Our speakers will explore the meaning of this special Shabbat. \nSpecial aliyot will honor our past presidents\, current leadership\, and members who have made major contributions to our success. Services will be led by Steve Ebstein and Danny Mandeau. Torah readers include Jonathan Delatizky\, Ben Mintz\, Ralph Isberg\, Howard Breslau\, Mitch Breslau\, Max Breslau\, Michael Goldman and Robert Finkel.  Our Haftorah reader is David Rozenson. \nCelebrate with us at our festive kiddush following the service. \nJoin us\, along with members of Minyan Ma’or and the Walnut Street Minyan\, in the sanctuary at 12:45 for a post-kiddush talk from our guest speaker\, Rabbi Elan Babchuck. \nAbout the Speakers\nRabbi Elan Babchuck \nOur guest speaker\, Rabbi Elan Babchuck serves as the Executive Vice President at Clal (National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership) and the Founding Executive Director of Glean Network\, which partners with Columbia Business School.  He has published in The Atlantic\, The Guardian\, Washington Post\, and Religion News Service\, writes a column for The Wisdom Daily\, contributed to Meaning Making – 8 Values That Drive America’s Newest Generations (2020\, St. Mary’s Press) and is the co-author of Picking Up the Pieces: Leadership After Empire (2023\, Fortress Press). His newest book about Shabbat\, Sacred Time\, is coming out in 2027. \nHe also serves as a Founding Partner of Starts With Us\, a movement to counteract toxic polarization in America\, and is a founding Research Advisory Board Member of Springtide Research Institute. \nArnie Zar-Kessler \nThe d’var torah will be presented by Arnie Zar-Kessler. Arnie has served as Head of School at Jewish Day Schools in Boston (Schechter) and Las Vegas (Adelson)\, reflecting close to thirty years in Jewish education. In addition\, he has helped train school leaders in underserved communities as Executive Director of Inspiring Educators\, working with Public and Charter Schools nationally\, including rising leaders at Teach For America. \nCurrently\, he serves on the Board of the Christa McAuliffe Charter School and is part of the team at Hummingbird Books in Chestnut Hill. \n

View the livestream HERE. \nDuring the Family Megillah Reading\, we’ll have noise-canceling headphones available\, as well as a Quiet Room in Room 22 for any children who may need a little break from the noise and excitement.
