Or do we?\n \nAbout Rabbi Jamie Kotler \nRabbi Jamie Kotler teaches Torah and Jewish texts at synagogue communities in the Boston area and beyond. She has served as chaplain at Fireman House (Hebrew Senior Life)\, and has served on the Boards of The Rashi School\, and Mayyim Hayyim\, and on the building committee for Newbridge on the Charles at Hebrew Senior Life. \nRabbi Kotler grew up in Brazil and Mexico\, the daughter of Holocaust survivors\, with little religious practice or knowledge. She began studying Torah as a young mother of three. Her desire to steep herself in the texts and traditions she had missed as a child led her to enter rabbinical school at the age of 54 and was ordained by the Rabbinical School of Hebrew College in June 2016. Before entering the rabbinate\, she was a computer programmer (EDS\, TX and Hewlett-Packard\, CA)\, a financial analyst (Advanced Cardiovascular Systems\, CA)\, and a consultant to small businesses. \nRabbi Kotler holds a BA in Biology from Brown University and an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business. She is married to Harold Kotler\, and together they have five grown children and four grandchildren. \n

We all know about the Coldplay moment this summer. That brief moment\, caught on camera\, destroyed careers\, reputations\, marriages\, families. Literally the opposite of light\, humorous\, or funny.Yet when Astronomer responded to this deeply painful moment\, it did so with a brief appearance by Gwyneth Paltrow\, who herself had been married to Coldplay’s lead singer\, Chris Martin\, with whom she had two children. Her words were light\, funny\, dry\, wry—and were very well received. The overwhelming reaction was that Gwyneth Paltrow’s piece landed and effectively enabled the company to move on.We will watch the clip of the Coldplay moment and Gwyneth Paltrow’s words and ask: why did it land so well\, did you have any reservations about it\, and what can it teach us about how to engage our world today? His story of resilience\, renewal\, and affirmation of life and hope are the inspiring message we all need to hear between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. \nPlease join us for his sermon on Shabbat morning\, and please join us at the Nova Exhibit. \nAbout Ofir Amir\nOfir Amir is co-founder and CFO of the Tribe of Nova Foundation\, established after the October 7\, 2023 Hamas attack on the Nova Music Festival. Wounded while escaping\, Ofir survived and later helped transform tragedy into a movement of healing and resilience. \nBefore the attack\, he was deeply involved in building the Nova community of music\, unity\, and love. Today\, he co-produces the Nova Music Festival Exhibition\, an international initiative honoring victims\, supporting survivors\, and raising funds for mental health care and Beit Nova—a permanent center for remembrance and recovery in Israel. \nThrough his leadership and testimony\, Ofir amplifies the voices of survivors and ensures their stories of courage live on.

DESCRIPTION:Sermon topic – Building a Sukkah of Hope One Fellow at a Time \nOn October 7\, 2023\, the world changed both in Israel and here in the United States for us as Jews.  Antisemitism has become mainstream\, most visibly in academia.  Join us on the first day of Sukkot\, October 7th\, as Dr. Mark Poznansky shares stories from the trenches of academic medicine where he and his colleagues are making a difference and charting a path for us to make a difference too. \nAbout Dr. Mark Poznansky\nMark C Poznansky\, MD\, PhD\, is a Professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School\, an attending physician in infectious diseases medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH)\, and Director of the Vaccine and Immunotherapy Center at MGH. He holds a doctoral degree Cambridge University and a medical degree from University of Edinburgh. The translational medical research center\, the Vaccine and Immunotherapy Center\, that Dr. Poznansky founded and directs sits at the interface between scientific discovery and medical product development\, discovering novel immune processes\, defining their molecular mechanisms and exploring their relevance to the development of vaccines and immunotherapies for cancer\, infectious diseases and type I diabetes.  Dr. Poznansky is also the co-founder of the Harvard Medical School chapter of Kalaniyot which sets as its mission to foster academic relations between Israeli academic medical centers and HMS here in Boston.  He is also the co-founder of the Jewish Employee Resource Group at Mass General Brigham that helps support the community of Jewish and Jewish affiliated healthcare workers in this large Massachusetts based healthcare system.  Dr. Poznansky also serves on the Board of the newly formed American Jewish Medical Association.
