SUMMARY:Biblical Responses to Ancient Challenges
DESCRIPTION:Minyan Ma’or is proud to announced its second class\, “Biblical Responses to Ancient Challenges” with Hebrew College Vice President Dr. Susie Tanchel\, starting Feb. 28. \nIn this course we will explore select biblical texts that discuss issues that continue to be relevant today. While many parts of life have shifted since biblical times\, elements of the human condition have remained the same. Like our ancestors before us\, for example\, we need to take innovate in certain moments\, to balance responsibility with authenticity\, to get buy-in for ideas\, and to respond to tragedy. Through studying the biblical sources\, we will discover both the places of great resonance\, and the places of disconnect\, with our current times. No prior knowledge of biblical Hebrew is required. Please bring an open mind and heart to our discussions. \nClasses will be recorded. \nThe cost is $120.Venmo @Sanford-Remz to pay. \nRegister Here→ \nAbout Dr. Susie Tanchel\nDr. Susie Tanchel is the Vice President of Community Education\, overseeing four main areas at the College: Adult Learning\, Teen learning\, the Miller Center for Interreligious Learning & Leadership work\, and professional development for rabbis and educators. \nShe has worked in K-12 pluralistic Jewish education for more than 25 years – briefly at Prozdor\, then at Gann Academy\, and mostly recently at Boston’s Jewish Community Day School (JCDS). SUMMARY:Java Gate
DESCRIPTION:We the Jewish people have a problem. How do we do a seder that deals with our depressing world without becoming depressing? It is so easy to get it wrong. \nWe could talk about October 7\, we could talk about rising anti-Semitism\, our college-age children could talk about what it is like for a proud Zionist and lover of Israel to be on campus\, but that is all super depressing. \nOr\, we could ignore the elephant in the room\, the 150-plus day war in Israel\, the fact that the golden age of American Jewry is either over or endangered (depending on your point of view)\, and then have a happier seder purchased at the cost of not talking about what really matters. \nIs there some way to thread the needle: to talk about depressing content without becoming depressing? \nThis Sunday\, Rabbi Wes Gardenswartz will lead a conversation about how to run a seder that engages our depressing world (October 7\, 150 plus days of war\, rising Jew hatred on college campuses and throughout the world) without becoming depressing. \nFull Drop In Schedule below:\nMarch 10 – Wes Gardenswartz and Marcie Abramson \nMarch 17 – Liz Goldstein \nMarch 31 – Elias Rosemberg \nApril 7 – Erin Moseley

SUMMARY:Small Discussion Groups To Talk About Israel
DESCRIPTION:The war in Israel continues\, with hopes of hostage release and de-escalation raised and dashed over and over again. The rise in antisemitism here and across the globe continues\, causing alarm for Jews everywhere. As a TE community\, we continue to support Israel and the fight against antisemitism. Last month\, fifty of us showed up in Israel\, helped\, witnessed\, and grieved together. This JNF Mission forever changed everyone on the trip. Together we march\, protest\, raise money through donations\, challah baking and other TE events\, and express our views to politicians and those who may be able to influence policy. The activism and support efforts at Temple Emanuel will\, and must\, continue. \nSoon after the war started\, we began small discussion groups that allow our members to talk to one another about this heart wrenching time. Over 50 people have joined and new people come each session. One participant said he felt like it was the only safe space to discuss Israel. \nJoin us again Sunday\, March 31\, 10:00am-11:00am in Reisman Hall as we come together to process together our feelings about the heart wrenching events unfolding. If you have a group from a prior session\, wonderful. Your group can continue. New groups form\, people join in with others. Everyone and every viewpoint are welcome. \nWe hope you will join us to share your feelings and thoughts during one of the most challenging times for the Jewish people and the Jewish State. \nProvide relief to victims of terror and war in Israel.  Donate now →
