SUMMARY:K-3rd Grade Olive Press Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Calling all Kindergarten – 3rd graders! To celebrate the holiday of Hanukkah\, we will be having Rabbi Dovid Zaltzman join us for an olive press demonstration. Our workshop demonstrates\, with the help of participants\, the process the Maccabees used to refine olive oil for the Menorah in the Chanukah story. Participants sort and hand-press fresh olives in an old fashioned olive press made of wood and cast iron\, then decant the olive juice with a modern centrifuge to quickly extract the pure olive oil – authentic “Shemen Zayit Zach”. As the olive oil is refined\, the participants hand spin wicks out of cotton and then light the Chanukah Menorah with the resulting oil. \nIf there are any non-Religious School students that would like to participate in this program\, please email Risa Wagner.

DESCRIPTION:Sabrina Strapp (member of Temple Emanuel and co-leader of Tot Shabbat ‘22-‘24) is so excited to bring her collegiate a cappella group\, Mixed Company of Yale\, to the Temple Emanuel community! We are delighted to have Temple Emanuel’s own David Rosemberg opening our show with a performance\, followed by a showcase of our group’s favorite a cappella tunes. \nMixed Company is Yale’s oldest all gender\, all genre a cappella group! Their diverse repertoire ranges from pop and rock to jazz and show tunes. They’ve appeared on national television in China and performed in venues on five different continents\, from classrooms to thousand-seat concert halls\, entertaining everyone from preschool students to former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon. This January\, they cannot wait to share their music with Temple Emanuel and the greater Newton community!
