Religious School Director (K-8)

 

Temple Emanuel of Newton, a thriving Conservative synagogue, is seeking a Religious School Director.  The successful candidate should inspire a love of Jewish learning and will work collaboratively as a member of the Temple Emanuel senior team engaging our families in the broader community.

Through the use of innovative programs, our educators explore the complexities of Jewish texts as they relate to our children’s daily lives. The study of Hebrew and the learning of rituals and prayer are presented in a manner that is personally enriching to each student. Imaginative, interactive programs engage our students in learning Torah and tefilot, celebrating chagim (holidays), reading and speaking Hebrew, connecting with Israel, and discovering their place in Jewish history.

The Director will lead a dedicated and enthusiastic staff of educators who are passionate about Jewish education, who value creativity, collaboration, and continuous professional learning and development.  

Responsibilities include:

  • Oversee all administrative aspects of Religious School including budget, hiring staff and enrollment. Coordinate school calendar including logistics and planning of related programs and activities.
  • Manage and develop the Religious School faculty/staff/specialists including providing teacher supervision and facilitating staff and professional development.
  • Provide guidance to teachers around curriculum development and classroom management skills and review lesson plans.
  • Recruit and provide on-going training for Teen Madrichim
  • Serve as the primary point of contact with parents, partnering with them to ensure their children’s needs are met and to foster deeper connections with the broader TE community.
  • Serve as a member of the Temple Emanuel senior staff working collaboratively to ensure the continuity between all stages of family religious life and playing a significant role in deepening our families’ connections to the broader TE community.

 

Qualifications:

  • BA/BS required
  • Masters Degree in Education, Jewish Studies or related field preferred.
  • 8-10 years experience managing a team
  • Demonstrated commitment to Jewish values
  • Formal Jewish coursework and Hebrew language proficiency preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

 

Position is full-time, full-year with flexibility.
