Temple Emanuel Welcomes Jeff Lurie as New Executive Director

NEWTON, MA – May 3, 2017 – Temple Emanuel is pleased to announce that as of May 1, 2017, Jeff Lurie has joined the Temple Emanuel community as the new Executive Director. Jeff comes to us from Albany, NY, where he was most recently the Executive Director of Temple Israel for over four years.

Prior to that experience, Jeff was honored to serve as Deputy Clerk of the Legislature and also managed various political campaigns in the Rochester, NY area. In 2008, Jeff found a new passion and transitioned from government work to the Jewish leadership world, becoming the Director of Young Leadership for the Rochester Jewish Federation. There he was tasked with getting young adults involved in Federation initiatives and Jewish life as a whole.  Additionally, Jeff led the Federation’s annual Super Sunday fundraiser and served on the financial resource development team.

Jeff demonstrates a passion for Judaism, a strong sense of leadership and brings a wealth of knowledge in programming and development. Jeff embodies the warm and welcoming principles of Temple Emanuel and we know he will be an excellent addition to our community.

In his spare time, Jeff is an avid history buff, is engaged in social action projects and is passionate about the arts. He recently moved to Newton, along with his wife Kelly Lurie who is a Geo-Chemist. Jeff’s firm belief in Kol Yisrael arevim zeh la-zeh (all Jews are responsible for one another) and tzedekah were inspired by his grandparents who were educators and leaders in their respective Jewish communities.

We hope you will join Temple Emanuel in extending a warm welcome to Jeff and Kelly over the coming months.
