Brotherhood Shabbat

March 1 @ 9:30 am - 12:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)

Please join us as Brotherhood leads a special Shabbat morning service that honors many of the men who help keep our community vibrant and strong. Be there as we celebrate passing our traditions from generation to generation (l’dor v’dor) with a diverse lineup of participants.

It is also Shabbat Shekalim, which highlights the importance of contributing to the upkeep of the Jewish community. Our speakers will explore the meaning of this special Shabbat, which also marks the start of the month of Adar.

Our guest speaker, Robert Housman, established Yad Chessed so he could help his neighbors struggling in Boston’s Jewish community. In the early years, he ran it by himself, with help from his wife Sue, as he worked full-time as a computer programmer. He directed Yad Chessed until the summer of 2012 when he became a member of its Board of Directors.

The d’var torah will be presented by Rabbi Dan Judson. Rabbi Judson serves as the Provost of Hebrew College where is also a lecturer in Jewish history. He received his doctorate in Jewish history at Brandeis University and his book, Pennies for Heaven: The History of American Synagogues and Money was a finalist for the National Jewish Book Award.

Special aliyot will honor our Keeper of the Flame, past presidents, current leadership, and leaders of our wide variety of activities. Brotherhood members will be leading the service, reading the Torah and Haftorah as well as receiving honors.

Celebrate with us at our festive kiddush following the service
