Elana Stein Hain: When Diaspora and Israel Challenge One Another – Reading Megillat Esther in Light of Today

February 25 @ 8:00 pm - 9:15 pm

Join us the week before we celebrate the holiday of Purim as we welcome back to Temple Emanuel one of our favorite Hartman scholars, Dr. Elana Stein Hain.

The Purim story centers on the Jews of Persia and its empire. Yet, simultaneously, many Jews had returned to Judea and were already building the second Temple there. This fact allows us to consider an additional layer to the story – how Jews living in these different places viewed each other – what tensions might be just beneath the surface. This is a helpful lens for considering tensions between Israel and the Diaspora today.

Don’t miss Elana’s teaching, When Diaspora and Israel Challenge One Another: Reading Megillat Esther in Light of Today. In the meantime, watch a recording of her last session with us, here.
