Temple Emanuel Preschool takes the mental health of our young children, families and staff very seriously. TEP is part of a second year pilot program, working with 3 other Jewish preschools on supporting mental health and behavioral needs in the classrooms. To help fulfil this need we have hired a social worker who spends 1 day a week in our school working with our children and staff, and supporting the families as needed.

Beth works collaboratively with the teachers providing support for all children with a focus on pro social learning. Beth regularly visits classrooms to talk about a variety of themes. Some of these themes include: mindfulness, feelings, friendship and strategies for problem solving with friends. In addition to visiting classrooms, Beth is available to partner with parents around any parenting questions. Beth can also be seen singing with the children and reinforcing strategies for practicing calm breathing, talking about feelings and taking turns.
Beth has a passion for finding books that promote conversations about feelings, kindness, inclusivity and ways to be a good friend.
Here are some books she would recommend:
In My Heart: A Book of Feelings
We Are All Alike We Are All Different (2-6 years old)
