Temple Emanuel is a Conservative, fully egalitarian congregation affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ). Our membership of over 1,100 families represents a diversity of Jews from Newton and surrounding communities. With our broad spectrum of religious, cultural, social, & educational activities, there are as many reasons to join Temple Emanuel as there are Jews in our congregation.

Shabbat is a day of rest for all of creation.

On May 17th, give it a rest!

Please join us on Saturday morning, May 17th in a congregation Walk to Shul. The practice of walking on Shabbat is good for us and it's good for the planet. It's healthful, peaceful, meaningful and social. And it reduces greenhouse gas emissions by the pound.

For each person who walks to Temple Emanuel from... greenhouse gas emissions are
reduced by... *
Newton Centre close to 1 pound
Newtonville 2.5 pounds
Newton Highlands 3.4 pounds
Waban 4.2 pounds

*based on an estimate of 25 mpg.

Now imagine groups of us walking from every point in the community and you can see the potential impact of a day of rest.

If you would like to join a walking group, contact:
Cyd Josephy Newton Centre cydneyj@verizon.net 964-1071
Beth Goldbaum Newtonville bgoldbau@mah.harvard.edu 332-3761
Barbara Gaffin Newton Highlands barbara.gaffin@gmail.com 332-4281
Amy Sales Waban sales@brandeis.edu 969-6484
If you would be willing to lead a walking group from your neighborhood, please contact Amy Sales. With your help, we can organize walks from every part of Newton.
If you live further away: you can participate by driving closer to join a walking group.
Regular walkers: please help get the word out on the pleasure of this Shabbat practice.

Everyone Is Invited: Join the Daily Minyan
The essence of our Seven Gates initiative is the cultivation of a strong sense of community at Temple Emanuel. One of the points of entry into Emanuel’s big tent is through the Gate of Prayer. The daily minyan is the oldest and most consistent form of community engaged in prayer. Our daily services are not just for memorializing loved ones, but also for moments of reflection and celebration. In support of those among us who are saying kaddish and to enrich our community and ourselves, we are inviting every Temple Emanuel member to attend one daily minyan each year during the week of his or her birthday. Can there be a better way to mark such an occasion? (Of course, everyone is welcome to join the minyan every day of the year!)
Evening Minyan: Sunday through Thursday at 7:30 PM
Shabbat Afternoon service: Varies according to the time of sunset
Morning Minyan: Sunday at 8:00 AM and Monday through Friday at 7:00 AM.

Facility issues: Tom @ 617-865-9965

For all other issues, including reporting of a death, illness, etc: 877-845-3550, 24 hours a day.
