Please join Sisterhood’s discussion of the memoir “I Kept Walking” with author Dr. Minou Soumekh Michlin, mother of Sisterhood member Sherene Michlin.
The book talk will be led by our Temple librarian Deb Abner.
Dr. Michlin contracted polio as a child in the 1940’s in Tehran, Iran. Born in a generation where an Iranian Jewish woman with a disability had no opportunities for marriage or work. She persevered to attain education, independence and love despite her own doubts and those of a traditional family and society impressed upon her. This is a fascinating story of the resiliency and strength of a young Jewish woman who despite her polio learns to cope and navigate in a very conservative society. Learn about the adversity she faced and how she was able to forge ahead despite numerous obstacles.
Presented by The Rabbi Marshall Lifson Library and Temple Emanuel Sisterhood.
